I think one of the best settings (especially for people with lower end computers looking to up the challenge) are the zombie navigation settings. You can have a challenging time with a relatively normal/smaller zombie population by upping their ability to navigate. Zombies being able to open doors is a total game-changer. The odds of becoming a zombie are, IIRC, 7% on a scratch, 25% from a laceration, and 100% if you get bitten. A lot of players, especially new players, will use sandbox settings to change it so only bites infect (it's the transmission setting under zombie lore). What I suggest is a fourth option: Saliva only. This way means that the player can't get infected with scratches, only bites.
