You can hide from the Helicopter event. I've done it a few times. You have to be inside the entire time the Helicopter is in the area and you cannot be seen at any point from the outside. Being in view from an open window could spell your doom. Making any noise can also alert the Helicopter to your presence.

The aftermath, though, would be a problem if you aren't prepared. Even if you weren't found, it will still attract a lot of zombies to the area around you.

Basically it adds a variety of different events compared to what the default behavior is, and if you have the scheduling forever it will continue to have events far into the play through.
