Anyways, went to turn kindle on and it was dead, then I tried plugging it into the wall to charge, but got the dreaded battery with the exclamation mark. Followed other tips posted about plugging it into a laptop (USB A connection on the laptop side) and low and behold it worked to reset the kindle to an operating condition.
